Title: Let’s spout

Abstract:
This lecture will present the development pathway of a spouted bed reactor system, from cold-flow hydrodynamic studies to thermal operation at pilot and pre-industrial scales. Initial investigations focused on cold-flow studies to characterize flow regimes and spout stability. These insights guided the design and construction of a 20 kWth heated spouted bed reactor, tested under various operating conditions to assess its thermal behavior and conversion efficiency. Building on these results, the system was successfully scaled up to a 0.5 MWth unit, integrating advanced feeding, control, and heat recovery strategies.
